Activities around and near Sutton Camp
The accommodation consists of 26 beds
· 2 Bunkrooms with 6 beds
· 2 Bunkrooms with 4 beds = ( 20 beds in main house)
· 1 Bunkroom with 6 beds in Hall complex (Detached from main house)
Mattresses and pillows are provided.

FACILITIES
There is a spacious modern kitchen with two electric stoves and a microwave.
All cooking equipment, utensils, crockery and cutlery are supplied.
There is a fridge and a freezer for cold storage.
The following are provided by the camp
· DETERGENT, TEA TOWELS
· ALL CLEANING MATERIALS, DISINFECTANTS , CLOTHS
· BUCKETS, BROOMS, MOPS
· TOILET PAPER
· KLEENSAKS FOR RUBBISH (YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE THEM WITH YOU)

· ALL FOOD REQUIREMENTS (The nearest store is at Middlemarch)

A catered meal can be organised for a negotiated charge.

The dining room is adjacent to the kitchen. In it there are
· 3 long tables
· chairs
· a notice board of local information
There is a separate lounge. In it there are
· comfortable chairs
· an open fire
· double doors opening to a verandah
The hall is separate from the main house. It has the following facilities
· carpeted floor
· log burner fire
· piano
· soft chairs
· Indoor bowls
There are modern female and male bathrooms.
Each Bathroom consists of
· 2 showers
· 2 toilets
· 3 basins
A disabled persons bathroom consists of
· wet shower
· basin
· toilet
· A modern washing machine, dryer and tub are available for use
· WASHING POWDER IS PROVIDED

· Fenced grounds suitable for overnight tenting (Tents not supplied by the camp)

ACTIVITIES

Activities around and near Sutton Camp
· Sutton Salt Lake - the only inland salt lake in New Zealand (1 1/2 – 2 hours)
· Taieri River - suitable for kayaks (not supplied by camp)
· Rock and Pillar Range - DOC walking tracks - Range from short walks to overnight tramp to DOC hut
(DOC pamphlet available at shop for $1)
· Macraes Gold Mine, ¾ hour drive away
· Miners’ Cottages – relics of gold mining era.
(These are on private property but permission to visit is readily given)
· A small farm may be visited. It has a large range of animals, including alpacas,
highland cattle, miniature horses, ostriches and many others.

· Central Otago Rail Trail – cycle or walks parts of this very well known scenic trail.
It begins 8 km from the Camp at Middlemarch. (Bring own bikes)
Cycles can be transported to Hyde and the children cycle to Middlemarch (this is very slightly downhill).
This passes the Hyde Train Accident Memorial and there are numerous places to pick up tired children (or their parents).
· Visit Naseby with Curling, Bush walks and mountain biking tracks.

· Ranfurly is nearby with its Art-Deco architecture.
